A Welcome to the Fete

From the Right Worshipful, The Mayor of Hythe,

Councillor Alan Ewart-James

Patron of the Hythe Venetian Fete Society

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you to this unique event of the Venetian Fete - a carnival on water. Local towns-people create very imaginative floats which are towed past the thousands of spectators who line the canal bank in two processions – once in the daytime and then again after dark when they are stunningly illuminated.

I hope that you have found time to stroll around our picturesque town, which nestles on a hill overlooking the English Channel and have explored some of its attractive narrow lanes, which are bounded by ancient walls, and the High Street with its small and unique shops and a great variety of good restaurants and pubs.

I am sure that you will enjoy your stay in Hythe and I look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future.
